A new job and a new kitten have taken priority for the past couple months and I’m happily diving back into my little home here in my little corner of the interwebs. I’m so excited to have more time to talk about the things I love…or don’t.

I saved Clementine even though I couldn’t save myself. (Walking Dead game).

I had to say goodbye to Amy and Rory Pond and am STILL heartbroken. Enough so, that I’m just not sure about this current companion, Clara. (Doctor Who).

My displeasure at the ending of the Walking Dead season was relieved by the beginning of a new season of Game of Thrones.

For the first time in months I am caught up on all my nerdy television.

Next month for “Berk Clerb” we will be reading The Color of Magic by Terry Pratchett.

I’m on the lookout for a new game to play because The Walking Dead game was phenomenal. I had such a blast playing through it. I thought it was extremely well done and really was perfect for my kind of gaming activity level – which is – “Give me something I can knock out on a Saturday cause I don’t have time for this business every night.” It took me a weekend to finish playing through after my initial video review of Chapter One and it was a weekend well spent. I highly recommend it to anyone/everyone. The game provided some minor frustrations – but in hindsight nothing big enough to ever keep me from telling someone to play it.

What do you guys think of Alan Wake?  I think I might try that next.

DID I MENTION I SAW JURASSIC PARK IN IMAX 3D?!? That was a happy, happy night. I have that movie memorized and the raptors STILL made me jump.

Reddit is weird, OK?

Attempting to, you know, “have similar interests” or whatever, I decided to delve a little bit further into the Reddit culture.

My friend, Rissa, provided me with this little nugget to get me started:

I spent some time checking things out.  Reading and only commenting once in a while because Reddit users are sort of terrifying.

The “thing” about Reddit is that everything is community curated so anything you post or any comment you make can receive upvotes (if it’s really good) or downvotes (if it’s terrible).  Depending on how people rate your content it will change your user stats.

There is a section of Reddit, called a “Subreddit,” for everything.  Seriously, everything.

All in all, I think I’ll probably continue to use Buzzfeed for my time-waster.  Because it’s prettier.  And less terrifying.

THINGS I LOVE ABOUT REDDIT:

This page doesn’t get old.  Just people posting adorable, heartwarming pictures of their furry loved ones.

Occasionally, celebrities, politicians or just interesting people will do an “AMA” (Ask Me Anything) where Reddit users get to ask them…anything.  They have to submit proof that they are who they say they are and you end up with some real gems like the picture above for Nick Offerman’s AMA.

THINGS I HATE ABOUT REDDIT:

• It isn’t pretty enough.  It really just looks like a bunch of thumbnails, text and links.

• Also, it can be sort of terrifying.  Not only can be people be brutal/racist/misogynistic with their comments, there are Subreddits dedicated to horrendous things (like beating women).  If Reddit is a community, I don’t think I want to be a part of it.  I don’t even have a picture to post here because it would really just be too offensive.

In other news, according to my Doctor Who poll a few posts ago no one likes Martha.  SHE JUST WANTS TO BE LOVED GUYS, OK?!??? Amy Pond for the win!

So the holidays didn’t go exactly as planned.

I still have to go see The Hobbit.  Have you guys seen it yet?  What did you think?  I’ve heard SO many mixed reviews that now I’m pretty nervous about going to see it.

I DID, however, watch a ton of Doctor Who…I’m not quite caught up yet and didn’t get to see the Christmas special in time…but I’m almost there!  One season to go!

Anyway – here’s an update on my progress:

The Martha Season

This season was OK.  I mean David Tennant was STILL amazing.  And Martha was pretty just OK.  Ultimately, it just wasn’t a big DEAL of a season to me.  Martha loves the Doctor, but the DOCTOR LOVES ROSE FOREVER AND EVER AND EVER.  I did really like The Shakespeare Code episode.  I’ve noticed that I think I like the episodes where they go back in time the best.  Usually, just because it includes visiting characters/people that I’m already familiar with and am excited to see in a Who adventure.  I also really loved the Human Nature/Family of Blood story arc.  Moving on!

The Donna Season

OK OK…SO Donna Noble.  I’ve heard so many different opinions about the Martha and Donna seasons.  Martha was a little “eh” for me…but Donna was different.  While there was a definite lack of romantic chemistry between these two, there was a lot of comedic chemistry.  So basically, sometimes I was bored because there wasn’t a lot going on between these two, however, they are hilarious.  ALSO, this season gives us a chance to sort of appreciate a different sort of Doctor/Companion relationship.  I’m  not sure what the Doctor/Martha relationship was, but it certainly didn’t seem to be as strong as his relationship with Donna.  (If that makes sense).  I loved every argument and really just enjoyed the character of Donna Noble – I feel like she has been perhaps the MOST relatable character on the show. (For me anyway).  Also, sadly, this was Ten’s last season.  He was given an OUTSTANDING farewell…but for me it was almost too much.  I feel like I could’ve stopped watching the series entirely. It felt SO final.  But, I suppose it helped in healing a few old wounds.

The Eleventh Doctor and Amy Pond

And with the entrance of the eleventh Doctor and Amy Pond as the new companion came a breath of fresh air.  THIS new Doctor is funny, weird and cute.  He doesn’t seem to have any bouts of righteous anger like Christopher Eccleston or David Tennant.  He wears suspenders and a bow tie. (Bow ties are cool).  Amy Pond is just fun to watch (not to mention gorgeous) and it’s funny to see a fairly comical love triangle develop between her, The Doctor and her fiance, Rory.   I really really loved this season after somewhat trudging my way through the past two.

My FAVORITE episode so far was in this season.  IF YOU HAVE NEVER EVER WATCHED DOCTOR WHO – BUT WANT TO SEE WHAT IT’S ABOUT – JUST WATCH VINCENT AND THE DOCTOR.  It does not give away any major story points and it shouldn’t be too confusing if you know the basics of the show.  It is phenomenal.  Just a beautiful beautiful little bit sad but mostly beautiful episode.

Also, we have had the chance to meet and see a decent amount of a new character, River Song.  I feel like I’m REALLY supposed to like her – I just don’t.  I’ve been told to “just wait.” And I’ll trust that.  That seems to be the advice from most Whovians for different aspects of the series and they’ve been right thus far.  SO…we’ll see.

I’m excited to dive into this next season and get ALL caught up.

I’ve been mulling over the idea of who my FAVORITE companion is.  I’m having trouble deciding for now.  But I’m curious to see what you think!

Other than that, there will be (hopefully) several new Doctor Who posts coming you way.  I’m trying desperately to get caught up before Christmas.  My husband has requested that Doctor Who Christmas Specials become one of our traditions…so….yup.  Also, hopefully I’ll go see The Hobbit movie later this week and post about that as well!  I hope everyone is having a delightful holiday season!
